Ashley Greene is using the 2017 solar eclipse to celebrate The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The film, of course, was based on the Stephenie Meyer novel, Eclipse.

With anticipation for the solar eclipse dominating social media on Monday, Greene tweeted, “Happy #Eclipse Day!” She included photo art that was created to promote the 2010 movie featuring her character Alice Cullen (see above). The film, which was the third installment in the franchise, marked a milestone for the film industry. In addition to being the first Twilight adaptation released in IMAX, it set records for midnight releases and Wednesday openings, though those grosses have since been, dare we say, eclipsed.

In the flick, Greene’s Alice has crucial visions that play pivotal roles in the plot, as is the case in several of the other installments. The book version was released in 2007, with its 10th anniversary coming earlier this very month. Meyer gave all the novels in the series sky-themed names, including New Moon and Breaking Dawn. In this case, the Eclipse title seems to get its name from a portion of the book in Bella (Kristen Stewart) refers to Jacob (Taylor Lautner) as her “sun,” but he implies he’s being overpowered by an “eclipse,” represented by Edward (Robert Pattinson).

In addition to Greene, a number of other stars have used the total eclipse to make pop culture references. Sarah Michelle Gellar, for instance, “If anyone happens to be by their mayor today…be careful. Just saying. #totalsolareclipse #SolarEclipse #WordsOfWisdom.” That was a nod to the third season finale of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.” In the second half of the two-part episode, the mayor of Sunnydale is giving a graduation speech when an eclipse takes effect, and he suddenly transforms into a snake-like demon that Gellar’s Buffy has to vanquish. The episode aired in 2009. Click to see more celebrity reactions to the solar eclipse.
